Wie ich es bereits vermutet hatte lässt Microsoft sich nicht lumpen und positioniert Windows Phone 7 ab Beginn an als Smartphone-Spielekonsole. Neben den bekannten Mini-Spiel Klassikern kommen auch Blockbuster wie Halo, Splinter Cell, Guitar Hero oder the Harvest für Windows Phone 7. Das sind allerdings nur einige Beispiele der über 60 Games welche ab Verkaufsstart über den Marketplace abrufbar sein werden.

Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt liegt hierbei auf Multiplayer-Games welchen die Xbox-Live Vernetzung zugutekommt. So kann über Xbox-Live gegen Freunde gespielt werden, egal ob diese an der Xbox, am PC oder an einem Windows Phone 7 Smartphone sitzen. Weiter können die bekannten XBox-Live Features wie die Freundesliste und Achievements verwendet werden.

Wer ein Spiel lieber erst testen möchte bevor er es im Marketplace erwirbt dem bietet Microsoft die Möglichkeit das Spiel vor dem Kauf ausgiebig zu testen.

So yes, it makes all kinds of sense that Microsoft is pushing Xbox Live so hard on Windows® Phone 7. Based on first impressions, it looks like while they haven’t evolved mobile gaming, they may have gotten it to level up.

All in all, it’s a promising picture for Microsoft. The company has the clout, the community, and most importantly the cash to pull this off, but as with all modern smartphone platforms, success can’t be judged on one aspect alone. To make Windows® Phone 7 really work, the folks in Redmond will have to hit the right note on not just gaming, but the basic user experience, hardware, applications, and carrier partnerships. Based on what we’ve seen of Xbox Live on these devices, we think the company can check at least one of those boxes off.
